Create a handout (brochure, flier, comic strip, diagram, etc.) that explains the actions you can take to protect your digital information and internet devices, particularly from online dangers, as well as why these actions are helpful. Your handout needs to make sense to someone who doesn’t have any background in the topic. To be successful, you need to do the following:

  • Be accurate
  • Name the points of vulnerability
  • Explain possible consequences 
  • Describe ~practical~ strategies for staying safe
  • Use visuals (diagrams, photos, sketches, etc) to help explain your ideas

  • Read  and take notes on the articles linked here about how computers work.
  • Work with 1-2 partners to create something (a slideshow, poster, etc.) that explains how computers work. Students can use one of the following options or create something of their own. Here are some options:
    • Create a simile for each part of the computer. Explain how each simile reflects the function of the computer part it represents. Include pictures.
    • Animate the way a computer works. Show how information flows through the computer.
    • Create a comic that follows a byte of information through a computer.
  • The project must include the following and explain what each item does:
    • Bits and bytes
    • CPU
    • Primary Memory/RAM
    • Secondary Memory
    • Bus,
    • Input Device
    • Output Device
    • System Clock
    • Ports
  • Be ready to present to the class on Wednesday

    • You make a clear claim about the the most important technology invented.
    • You give reasons that are relevant to the claim and show that you understand the significance of your technology

    • Begin work on Technology Family Tree showing how technology builds on itself:
      • Demo: Harry Potter and the Tech Family Tree
      • Create a Tech Family Tree for your cell phone (due Wednesday)
        • Use LucidChart
        • Group project; be able to list who contributed what
        • Show what technological innovations were necessary to produce your cell phone
        • Each innovation gets its own bubble on the chart
        • Include the approximate year (or century) for each innovation
        • Explain your connections
        • To get an "A", go back at least 2000 years
        • Bonus points for including images
